Celebrate Martin Luther King Day with A Touch of Mexico
On the 15th January, Americans will celebrate the life and legacy of the man who was a key player in the Civil Rights Movement: Martin Luther King Jr.
The Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. was an activist who, back in 1963, had a vision of the America we have today. He believed that all citizens, regardless of the color of their skin, should enjoy the same rights, liberties, and freedoms that are granted to all Americans.
As President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), Martin Luther King Jr. led the march on Washington. It was then that he made his iconic “I have a Dream” speech where he laid out his plans for a future, color-blind, democratic America. Today, Americans remember this speech as being one of the most iconic moments of the 20th century which ideals still rings true today.
Dr. King did not just “talk the talk.” He “walked the walk.” A firm believer in non-violent protest, King campaigned peacefully despite constant threats, jail-time, and beatings. He lived by example, remaining peaceful yet refusing to stop fighting against an unjust social and political system until his assassination in 1968. He will always be remembered for his perseverance, vision and ultimate sacrifice.
The Importance of Celebrating Martin Luther King Day
Without the sacrifice and efforts of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights movement, all Americans would not enjoy the same rights they enjoy today. We celebrate Martin Luther King Day to learn and remind ourselves of a time when America was not as tolerant.
In the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision, we urge you to unite as Americans in the same way Dr. King united the Civil Rights movement. Come and celebrate Dr. King over an authentic homemade Mexican meal. We make Mexican food the old – or, according to us – the right way.
From all of us at Ramona’s Mexican Food, we wish you a fantastic Martin Luther King Day. We hope to see you for a delicious bite to eat.
